We're looking for a Senior Tools Engineer to help develop our tooling including HELIX Studio, our RP server creation kit. This is a remote-first job backed by some of the biggest investors in gaming. As a Senior Tools Engineer, you'll be responsible for design and development for key tools that empower our creator community and our internal devs. You'll work on our Launcher product (a client app, that provides access our gaming platform & web-based applications), our Studio product (a Creator toolset application that uses Unreal Editor features for game world content population), and other tools related to game development and dev assistance. With a strong focus on Unreal Engine 5, you’ll ensure our toolset remains cutting-edge, powerful, and accessible for creators. You’ll collaborate with gameplay engineers, artists, and Lua scripters to provide seamless and intuitive tools for both internal and external users.
Develop and maintain key creator tools, including our Studio Editor used for populating server worlds with content and the Launcher for accessing our web-based applications.
Create and improve developer tools for the internal team, including automation tools, debugging utilities, and asset management systems.
Lead the design and implementation of tools that leverage Unreal Engine 5, ensuring they are performant, easy to use, and integrate seamlessly with other parts of the platform.
Collaborate with the wider engineering team to build and maintain cross-platform tools that can be deployed across various environments (PC, console, etc.).
Work with the design and gameplay teams to ensure the tools meet the needs of content creators, including procedural content creation, custom asset imports, and gameplay world publishing/testing.
Optimize workflows to streamline the development pipeline for both internal developers and external creators, focusing on efficiency and ease of use.
Integrate and maintain support for third-party plugins within the toolset, ensuring compatibility and functionality across platforms.
Contribute to the overall architecture of the tools, ensuring they are modular, scalable, and future-proof.
5+ years of experience in tools development for games or interactive applications.
Expertise in Unreal Engine 4/5, with a deep understanding of its editor systems, Blueprints, and tools architecture.
Strong programming skills in C++, with experience building custom tooling for game development workflows.
Proven experience designing and developing editor tools that enhance content creation pipelines.
Familiarity with cross-platform development and tool deployment across PC and console environments.
Problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently while collaborating with remote teams.
Excellent communication skills, with experience working in a distributed, remotefirst environment.
Experience with web-based tools and applications, including RESTful APIs for backend integration.
Familiarity with third-party plugins for Unreal Engine.
Knowledge of UI Frameworks such as Qt/WxWidgets
Familiarity with Systems level programming
Experience working with Lua scripting or other scripting languages commonly used in game modding and user-generated content platforms.
Knowledge of runtime procedural content generation and how to integrate it into custom toolsets
