Full-time · Remote

Who are we?

Hypersonic Labs is building HELIX, the ultimate open-world multiplayer sandbox. We are a remote-first, international team and have raised $11M from top gaming VCs.

About the role

We are looking for a well-organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented Junior QA Test Engineer to join our development team. In this role, you will test our game development platform, ensuring all features, tools, and gameplay mechanics work as expected.

You'll collaborate with engineers, scripters, and your Lead QA Engineer to identify, document, and track bugs and usability issues. This is a great opportunity to get hands-on experience with UE5, Lua scripting, and cutting-edge toolsets in a dynamic, remote environment.

What you will be doing

• Testing various features and tools within the game creation platform, ensuring they function as intended.

• Executing manual and automated tests on new builds and releases, focusing on functionality, performance, and user experience.

• Identifying, documenting, and tracking bugs, issues, and inconsistencies using bug tracking tools (e.g., JIRA).

• Collaborating closely with developers and Lua scripters to understand new features and provide feedback from a user’s perspective.

• Writing and updating test cases for new features and ensure coverage across all functionalities.

• Perform regression testing to ensure existing features remain stable after updates.

• Test the platform’s Lua scripting features, ensuring that custom scripts behave as expected in user-created content.

• Verify that assets and tools powered by Unreal Engine meet the quality standards expected by our users.

• Provide clear and actionable bug reports, including steps to reproduce, severity, and potential impact.

• Participate in QA team meetings to provide insights and feedback on platform improvements.

• Proactively seek solutions when encountering blockers, and communicate challenges with the team.

• Offer constructive feedback and ask insightful questions to ensure the best possible outcome for the platform.

What we will need from you

• Strong passion for gaming and a keen interest in game development platforms.

• Basic understanding of game development engines (preferably Unreal Engine) and familiarity with scripting languages (any Lua scripting experience is a plus).

• Experience in software/game testing (internships, personal projects, or coursework considered).

• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Familiarity with bug tracking tools like JIRA or similar platforms.

• A basic understanding of version control systems (Git, Perforce) is an advantage.

• Proactive and self-driven: You don't wait for instructions and are always looking for ways to improve features, processes, or your own skills.

• Curious and eager to learn: You crave knowledge, are open to new ideas, and aren’t afraid to step outside of your comfort zone.

• Collaborative and communicative: You engage with the team, voice your opinions, and welcome feedback from others. You’re not afraid to speak up or challenge decisions in a respectful and thoughtful way.

• Resilient: You embrace mistakes as learning opportunities and remain motivated to solve problems.

Nice to have

• Prior experience testing or working with game engines (Unity, Unreal Engine, etc.).

• Familiarity with community-driven platforms like Roblox, Minecraft, or FiveM.

• Understanding of automated testing tools and techniques.

• Basic programming or scripting knowledge (C++, Python, Lua, etc.).
